Course overview

This training introduces participants to the unique challenges of overdose loss and the unique grief families and individuals encounter as a result. There are many misconceptions surrounding addiction and the causes of addiction. Thus, an overdose often results in a stigmatized type of loss that is disenfranchised. This training provides practical tools participants can use with individuals grieving the loss of a loved one to an overdose. Objectives: 1. Describe the unique nature of overdose loss and how it is a traumatic loss. 2. Define disenfranchised grief generally. 3. Identify how overdose loss is a type of disenfranchised grief. 4. Recognize solutions and interventions that can be used with individuals navigating overdose loss.
