Course overview

Advanced Myofascial Techniques and Functional Movement Assessments ? Neck, Shoulder, Low Back, Pelvis and Legs ? 16 CE Hours - is a form of massage therapy that teaches participants to safely release fascial and muscular tension in the body. Participants will learn how to affect structural balance in reference to postural problems with hands-on and movement corrections working with myofascia. The teacher Magnus Eklund is an LMT (since 1994) and myofascial CE teacher/provider since 1999. He is the founder of SMT - Synergetic Myofascial Therapy, which includes: advanced myofascial techniques based on myofascial structural bodywork, joint range of motion, stretching techniques and functional movement and postural assessments. This course is a 16 CE advanced myofascial technique course open to all LMT?s. Restrictions in the soft tissue are addressed with hands-on techniques by the therapist in synergy with active movement by the client. Clients are dressed in appropriate clothing during session; shorts, tank tops or sports bras for women. Functional assessments taught are postural/structural, active/passive and resisted range of joint movements. The purpose of assessments are not to diagnose (This is outside of our scope), but to determine where and if myofascial work is safe for the clients, and to determine myofascial structural imbalances. Knowing where to work is an important part of effective myofascial practice. This style of work teaches massage therapists how to conserve energy and use safe body mechanics, and is within the scope of practice for massage therapists. This is not a Rolfing?, nor structural integration, nor KMI course.
