Learn moreCourse overview
Self-injurious behaviors (SIBs) are fairly common in children with autism and other developmental disabilities. These behaviors are scary to witness and often leave us uncertain how to help. This 2-hour, view-on-demand, recorded webinar provides an overview of the known causes of SIBs, a method for determining the function of the SIB, and a framework for intervention. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) identify three potential causes of self-injurious behaviors, (2) state the proactive vs. reactive role of sensory strategies in addressing self-injurious behaviors, and (3) identify intervention strategies based on the identified function of the self-injurious behavior. This distance-learning, independent format is offered at 0.2 CEUs, Introductory Level, OT Service Delivery, and targeted to introductory- to intermediate-level OTs and other professionals working with individuals with self-injurious behaviors. The course instructor, name Gwen Wild, MOT, OTR/L, is an experienced occupational therapist specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents diagnosed with autism and sensory processing disorders. Gwen is the creator of BrainWorks sensory diet tools. For more information on our recorded courses, visit our website: https://www.sensationalbrain.com/product-cagtegory/ceu/on-demand-webinars.
