This 2-hour, view-on-demand, recorded webinar is designed for pediatric occupational therapists and other professionals looking to deepen their understanding of the proprioceptive system and its crucial role in child development. Often referred to as the body awareness sense, proprioception influences movement, motor planning, and self-regulation, making it essential to address in sensory integration therapy. This course provides an in-depth exploration of the proprioceptive system, its under-recognized impact on daily life, and creative therapeutic intervention strategies to support children with proprioceptive challenges or sensory processing disorder. Participants learn how to identify proprioceptive under-responsiveness, differentiate it from other sensory processing challenges, and integrate creative activities that directly target proprioceptive needs. The course also highlights effective treatment approaches to improve self-regulation, attention, and motor coordination through proprioceptive input. From sensory diets to classroom strategies, participants gain actionable tools and product recommendations that can be easily implemented in therapy sessions, home environments, and school settings. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) identify proprioceptive-based strategies to incorporate into treatment sessions, (2) state what the proprioceptive sensory system is and its impact on self-regulation, (3) list proprioceptive under-responsiveness in a variety of cases, (4) identify causes of sensory processing challenges in children, and (5) state strategies to improve participation in functional daily tasks utilizing proprioceptive-based activities. This distance-learning, independent format is offered at 0.2 CEUs, Introductory Level, OT Service Delivery, Foundational Knowledge, and targeted to introductory- to intermediate-level OTs, COTAs, SLPs, and other pediatric professionals. The course instructor, Rachel Harrington, COTA/L, CPRCS, is a pediatric occupational therapy assistant, passionate about sensory integration, primitive reflexes, and early intervention. In October 2020, Rachel took over Sensational Brain, previously owned by Gwen Wild, MOT, OTR/L, in which she has rebranded and expanded into new courses, products, and more!
