Course overview
Module 1: Best comparison evidence overview This module will describe an overview of ACL tear management, current best evidence and expert recommendations. It will also discuss long-term outcomes, paediatric data as well as elite-level comparison across both surgical and non-surgically managed groups. Module 2: ACL healing and considerations My personal journey of ACL non-surgical management changed tack around 4 years ago, with a growing realisation that many ACL tears can sufficiently heal. Research literature has affirmed this, with new evidence suggesting very high rates. There is also advice for implementing this knowledge into clinical practice. Module 3: Principles of initial management and preparing a shared-decision This module focuses on how we should be unbiased and objective in our presentation of the facts to patients who have just injured their knee. There are practical strategies like empowering them with questions to ask us, summarising our recommendations in a written plan and strategies to assist with early 'buy-in' to rehabilitation alone. Module 4: 3 key phases of physical management This module covers the 3 key phases that clinicians will guide patients through in order to improve the likelihood of a successful outcome following non-operative management of an ACL injury. There are timeless principles that are covered, as well as the authors clinical experience.
