Assessment of hip pain

Course overview

This practical will allow the clinician to diagnose common causes of hip pain accurately using the Zurich consensus model of hip pain classification (ie: FAI syndrome, hip dysplasia/instability, or other causes of hip pain without abnormal hip morphology). It will also allow the clinician to differentiate between hip pain and other causes of groin pain, using the Doha consensus model of clinical entities of groin pain (hip flexor-related pain, inguinal-related pain, pubic-related pain and adductor-related pain), and referred pain from the lumbar spine. It will comprehensively cover the principles underpinning the subjective examination including red flag identification, interpretation of imaging and other key components. The objective assessment will focus on accurate diagnosis and the evaluation of impairments, to allow the development of an individualised, targeted management plan.
