The practice-changing principles of strength & conditioning for physios
Tracking # 20-1260775
Course overview
Module 1: Addressing the rehabilitation focus Setting the scene; here we provide a conceptual model for dynamic joint stability, the important indices of performance and how these are assessed. We explore the framework of conditioning efficacy as a tool for determining the indices of performance most critical for rehabilitation. Module 2: A strength first approach Why should we consider muscular strength as a priority for rehabilitation? Here we take a look at the evidence of the role that muscle strength, or lack of, has on health, injury avoidance and mortality risk. We also delve into the dose-response for strength-based exercise. Module 3: Exercise design for patient populations Optimised development of muscular strength is based on high-intensity muscular contractions, however, patients often present in pain and, or, with clinical restrictions and these can present barriers to this type of exercise. Here we explore several simple, evidence-based strategies to adapt exercise for patient symptoms, but still maintains specificity for strength development. Module 4: Decision making and periodisation Often at the start of a rehabilitation journey, there are a multitude of outcomes, indices of performance and physical performance characteristics that need to be addressed and enhanced. Knowing what to focus on and when can be quite confusing. Here we use a modified technique of periodisation to aid that decision making process and to provide a systematic approach to progression.
