EIGHT EXTRAS AND THE CHILDBEARING CYCLE: MODULE 4, LABOUR AND BIRTH

Course overview

This final, four hour module will cover the period of gestation between the "due" date and the early post-partum period. We will discuss allopathic care for post-term pregnancy, and the ways in which women are often disempowered through this process. A discussion on the use of herbs and acupuncture over time for the purpose of transitioning gently from pregnancy to labor, as well as strategies for bringing on labor when necessary, will be presented. Acupuncture and acupressure protocols for labor will be presented, including fetal mal-position, failure to progress, pain management, and stress/ fear. Acupuncture for the third stage of labor and the immediate post-partum period, including management of bleeding, recovery, early breastfeeding and bonding will be discussed.
