The home study program is presented through the TIA International online platform; the program is available on demand 24/7, is dynamic, interactive, and makes full use of state-of-the-science user-engagement practices (e.g., videos, clinical vignettes, simulation families). The family therapy competencies and CIFFTA training are presented in five modules: 1) System Conceptualization of adolescents and their families 2) Engagement of the family and the adolescent, including reluctant family members 3) Motivational Enhancement for youth and families 4) Modifying maladaptive family interactions 5) Tailoring Treatment. Each module was designed and tested during a pilot study. Within each of the modules, we focus on three levels of competencies: Conceptual Skills, Perceptual Skills, and Executive Skills. Modules include assessments to document learning, monitor progress, provide feedback to trainees, and inform the next training activity. Trainees are expected to progress through their training at a self-pace but they are expected to complete the training in two weeks. The training program takes about 12 hours to complete. Our focus is on core Commission on Accreditation for MFT Education and CIFFTA competencies.
