Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Describe the core principles and theories behind Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
• Explain how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact in the context of CBT.
• Understand the physical and psychological developmental stages of childhood and adolescence.
• Differentiate between age-appropriate behaviors that may indicate the need for CBT intervention.
• Recognize common mental health conditions in children and adolescents that can be addressed using CBT, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and behavioral disorders.
• Perform age-appropriate assessments to evaluate cognitive distortions, behavioral patterns, and emotional responses in children and adolescents.
• Apply cognitive restructuring techniques to help children challenge negative thought patterns.
• Use behavioral interventions, such as exposure therapy and activity scheduling to help manage maladaptive symptoms.
• Incorporate mindfulness and relaxation strategies suitable for children and adolescents.
• Apply culturally sensitive approaches to adapt CBT practices to diverse populations of young clients.
