Infection Control and Safety for Ohio Salon Professionals

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify the Ohio Administrative Code regulations regarding salons' safety, sanitation, and infection control.
• Recognize potential safety and sanitation hazards specific to hair design and natural hair styling practices.
• Describe the standards for practicing safely and effectively in a salon environment.
• Outline the workplace safety rights provided to salon professionals by the U.S. Department of Labor.
• Examine the roles of the CDC, OSHA, FDA, and EPA in regulating safety practices within Ohio's salon industry.
• Apply techniques for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing salon tools and equipment in accordance with Standard and Universal Precautions.
• Determine when to disinfect, sanitize, sterilize, or discard tools and equipment used in hair services.
• Explain the procedures for Standard and Universal Precautions and their application to safe and hygienic salon practices.
• Evaluate the legal and ethical responsibilities of salon professionals in maintaining infection control standards and assess the potential professional and legal consequences of non-compliance.
• Identify common pathogens present in salon environments and evaluate their modes of transmission, potential health risks, and effective prevention strategies to mitigate infection.
• Develop and implement effective protocols to prevent infections and injuries in salons, enhancing client and worker protection.
