Course overview

Module 1: Corticosteroid injections for musculoskeletal disorders This module will introduce you to the historic and current use of injection therapy internationally. You will be prompted to consider the general indications for injection therapy and the challenge of a patients desire for a quick fix. Module 2: The risks Vs benefits of corticosteroid injections This module will focus on the risks and side effects associated with the use of corticosteroid injections. Both local and systemic risks will be presented. This will enable the clinician to have balanced conversations about both the benefits and the lesser-known risks. Module 3: The use of corticosteroid injections in the upper limb The role of corticosteroid injections will be explored for common MSK presentations in the upper limb. The evidence of effectiveness will be reviewed along with expected duration of effect and potential associated risks. Module 4: The use of corticosteroid injections in the lower limb The role of corticosteroid injections will be explored for common MSK presentations in the lower limb. The evidence of effectiveness will be reviewed along with expected duration of effect and potential associated risks. Module 5: Injection therapy - Case Scenarios In this module we combine all of our previously learned information and apply it to five individual case studies. We explore different conditions throughout the body and explore how injection therapy could be utilised, we explore shared decision-making, benefits vs risks associated with each case and discuss what should be the preferred treatment option for these clinical patient scenarios.
