(HS Hayes 150038 2024) How Behavioral Science Has Failed Us A Roadmap Towards a Practical Science of Psychotherapy
Tracking # 20-1263813
Course overview
Steven C. Hayes is the developer of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and the codeveloper of Process-Based Therapy. The author of nearly 50 books, including the #1 bestselling Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life as well as A Liberated Mind: How to Pivot Toward What Matters, he's a popular speaker and blogger whose Ted Talks and blogs have nearly three million views and reads. A former president of multiple psychology and behavioral science associations, his many professional honors include a Lifetime Achievement Award from ABCT. He is among the most cited psychologists in the world. In this talk, Hayes will explain why he believes that behavioral science has failed practitioners with its focus on latent diseases and diagnoses, and what can be done about it. But what can be done about all this labeling when practitioners work in a world structured by DSM and reimbursement protocols? Using his own popular Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as an example, Dr. Hayes will introduce a new approach to case-conceptualization that can redefine evidence-based therapy to be far more relevant to the actual world of clinical practice--and fairer to the people we hope to serve.
