Course overview

Clients experience a loss and suddenly the rhythms of their lives are changed. It's as if they have left home without a map and find themselves in a foreign land. Their bodies activate survival strategies to protect them from being overwhelmed with suffering and their brains create stories to try and make sense of what has happened. Polyvagal Theory offers a guide to finding their way. By listening to our autonomic nervous system and honoring its wisdom, we can learn to navigate the world differently and embody a new rhythm. In this experiential workshop Deb Dana, Polyvagal Theory expert trainer and author, will show how biology shapes the experience of loss and ways to partner with the nervous system to move forward. She uses the principles of Polyvagal Theory to look at loss, explore ways to follow autonomic responses after a loss, and learn how to engage the power of ventral energy to remember a loss while creating rhythms that nourish new patterns. Deb will do a live demonstration that shows Polyvagal Theory in action in exploring an autonomic story of loss.
