The study investigates how employment-related stressors--such as unemployment, financial issues, criminal history, overworking, and workplace conflict--negatively impact both couple adjustment and addictive behaviors. Through a thematic analysis of case notes from a randomized controlled trial of Congruence Couple Therapy (CCT), the study finds that CCT helps clients develop essential skills in self-awareness, communication, work-family balance, and spousal support. These skills improve employment functioning and reduce stress and addictive behaviors, highlighting the potential of CCT as an effective intervention for addressing the intertwined issues of employment stress, couple adjustment, and addiction recovery.
