Course overview

Given the relatively young average age of onset, most people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) will experience symptoms of the disease for most of their lives and up to 70% will develop cognitive-communication symptoms. This course details the role of the SLP throughout the MS journey, with an emphasis on early intervention opportunities to provide education and offer functional, cognitive-communication strategies ideas to sustain participation in the workforce, maintain social relationships, and empower clients to advocate with their medical providers. This course will identify multiple patient-reported outcome measure tool options to promote identification of "invisible symptoms" and describe a person-centered approach that emphasizes education, community resources, and client self-advocacy to navigate the MS journey.
