Antimicrobial stewardship programs have been shown to decrease antibiotic usage, improve patient outcomes, and decrease adverse drug reactions. The CDC has released Core Elements of Hospital Antibiotic Stewardship Programs in efforts to help hospitals implement and expand effective stewardship programs. This session will discuss the CDC core elements for stewardship programs and provide examples for program implementation at facilities. Introduce antimicrobial stewardship and its importance. Discuss the CDC Core Elements for antimicrobial stewardship programs. Provide examples for implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs. Learning Outcomes Standard: Based upon program standards defined by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and other nationally recognized resources in patient safety science.
