Course overview

The Interfaith Dental Program was founded by Christ Church Cranbrook, the Muslim Unity Center, Delta Dental of Michigan, and the Delta Dental Foundation. It aims to support refugees by connecting them with volunteer dentists for essential dental care not covered by insurance or Medicaid. This program helps refugees achieve better oral health and integrate smoothly into their new lives. The program is open to refugees from any country. Here's how it works for dentists: Volunteer: Dentists agree to treat one to four patients in their own offices with their existing staff. Treatment: Dentists independently examine patients and develop treatment plans to restore oral health. Reimbursement: The program reimburses dentists for lab fees and staff time, along with a per-visit facility supply fee. Additionally, dentists receive a letter acknowledging their service donation. Impact and Opportunity Our dedicated volunteer dentists have provided over $160,000 worth of dental care to refugees, with the program covering most of the costs. However, the need for dental care remains high, and we're actively seeking more dentists to join this worthy effort. CE Program: Combining Service and Learning To encourage participation, we've developed a two-part CE program: Part 1: A one-hour online course on the cultural backgrounds of the refugee communities served by the program. This course must be completed before being assigned a patient. Part 2 Volunteer Hours: Providing dental care to an assigned refugee patient to restore their dental health. We are seeking approval for this part. By completing both parts, dentists receive one hour of credit for Implicit Bias training and two hours of standard CE credit. Lab fees are still covered, but the volunteer dentist bears all other expenses. Additional Information and Contact For more information, please visit our website: www.interfaithdental.org.
