This course written by a Project Lead and Master Black Belt with the Joint commission Center for Transforming Healthcare focuses on the timely topic of wrong site surgeries (WSS). The Joint Commission has various tools to address and eliminate this most common sentinal event in the United States. Pilot studies were conducted with eight hospitals to test and refine these tools. The overall results were impressive: 46% reduction in cases containing risk factors within surgical booking, and 63% reduction in the pre-op area. The OR experienced an overall reduction in 51% and 76% of cases containing more than one risk factor.
