Learn moreCourse overview
Pain Science in Practice is a live course delivered over two days for a total of 16 contact hours. The target audience is Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants and Specialist Physical Therapists who work with people experiencing any form of ongoing pain. The course has been designed to provide attendees with advanced and up to date knowledge regarding the neurobiology of pain. This knowledge is then applied to clinical practice to enhance current evidence-based treatment techniques and introduce and/or develop the notion of Pain Science Education as a treatment strategy. A strong focus of the course will be the links between learning and pain and using contemporary educational strategies to teach people experiencing persistent pain to understand their experiences better and encourage them to engage with active treatment approaches. Participants will leave the course with several vital takeaways; i. pain is complex and involves multiple bodily systems; ii. pain does not equate directly to damage in the body; iii. deeply understanding pain helps Physical Therapists more effectively treat pain; and iv. When patients understand their pain better (through Pain Science Education), they can hurt less.
