The goal of this program is to inform healthcare professionals about the medications used to treat patients with hyperlipidemia who are at significant risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). After you study the information presented here, you will be able to: Name five categories of medications that reduce lipids and name the main lipid targeted in each category.State the most common adverse effects of the most widely used cholesterol-lowering medications, known as statins.Identify the potential risk reduction in treating hyperlipidemia.
