INSULIN MANAGEMENT
Tracking # 20-365473
Course overview
With improved control of diabetes, patients have fewer complications, improved psychological well-being and overall greater satisfaction with diabetes management. As healthcare practitioners become more involved in helping patients control their diabetes, they need to understand the basic principles of insulin management. This course includes an explanation of the actions and types of insulin with a description of common problems of blood glucose management with various insulin dosage regimens. Two approaches of insulin management are covered: the prospective and retrospective approaches. Examples and algorithms are provided for both. Algorithms are the basis of self-adjustment for insulin. They enable the patient to make daily insulin choices based on blood glucose levels, food intake, exercise and variations in normal routine.
