Uncovering Our Hidden Biases: How to See the Unseen

As humans, we all have biases. They develop as a result of life experience, training, perceptions, etc. It is our brain's way of taking shortcuts. We certainly are aware of some biases we hold and may strive to overcome them. But what about those that are below the surface, underneath our level of awareness? Without the proper approach, trying to identify your own biases accurately is like trying to see yourself without using a mirror. You may be able to glimpse one part of the picture at a time, but not a complete and coherent image. This is a reflection of how some biases are easier to recognize than others. In this presentation, Dr. Patterson will equip participants with the tools they need to identify both superficial and deeply rooted biases, assess their impacts on beliefs and behaviors, and elevate self-awareness to step outside of their biases into less distorted thought patterns that more clearly represent reality.
