Course overview

Basic overview of abdominal ultrasound including physics, scan techniques, color Doppler, and normal abdominal sonographic anatomy. Emphasis will be on the normal anatomy of the abdomen and the unique isomorphic appearances of the abdominal organs. Emphasis will also be placed on the use of normal abdominal vessels to aid in identifying normal structures and their expected anatomic location. Also overview of scanning techniques including Doppler & color flow imaging and commonly encountered abdominal abnormalities. Acquired experience in performing studies with patients in lateral and dorsal recumbency.
