Course overview

In the United States, there are fewer FDA-approved drugs for minor species (such as sheep and goats) than for the major species so the small ruminant practitioner must be familiar with the laws and regulations related to extra-label use in multiple species. This presentation will discuss the laws and regulations around extra label drug use, clinical use of different therapeutics in small ruminants, with a focus on commonly used antimicrobials, analgesic drugs and intramammary products. This presentation will also discuss the importance of residue avoidance and how to get advice about a meat or milk withdrawal interval from the Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank Program.
