Pediatric Equinus Deformity Development & Management in Children with Cerebral Palsy & Idiopathic Toe Walking with Serial Cas

Course overview

LAB ENROLLMENT - DAYS 1 & 2 Limited to 12 didactic course alumni who passed all the exams and who are prepared to use the new assessment and orthotic modification skills in practice. With that consideration, labs will be filled on a first come first served basis. LAB ENROLLMENT - DAY 3: Limited to 6 lab course participants who are prepared to use the new cast fabrication and posting skills in practice. With that consideration, this lab will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE - Pre-course review materials are assigned to enhance learning. Lab sessions will proceed upon the assumption that pre-course review materials are completed. Lab sessions on Days 1 & 2 feature supervised trials of ankle & foot assessment procedures with findings applied to modifications of an insole or orthosis undertaken to optimize foot alignment. Participants will observe a case presentation and undertake a foot and ankle assessment with a child with equinus deformity. Lab Sessions on Day 3: Orthotic optimization principles and methods will be implemented in the fabrication & biomechanical optimization of a below-knee cast that is made to be removed without a motorized cutter. Lab Sessions on Day 4 feature supervised team assessments of ambulatory children with equinus deformity, ages 4 through 9 years. Findings are applied to a plan for immediate orthotic modifications, with execution on the plan if possible.
