Learning Objectives:

After completing this course, health professionals will be able to:

1. Demonstrate an evidence-based foundation for the construct of ‘psychological distance’ and the development of mental construals based on 4 underlying theories related to categorization, concept formation, action identification, and temporal distance.
2. Identify and empirically substantiate the four critical elements of Construal Level Theory (CLT), as well as their interactive relationship.
3. Recognize at least 3 clinical applications of CLT-based approaches (e.g., affect regulation, uptake of health-related behaviors) and clinically utilize CLT exercises alone or in tandem with 4 common treatment models (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, Mindfulness-based Approaches, Motivational Interviewing) toward therapeutic goals.
