At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the sociocultural factors contributing to the disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS on African American youth and the evidence to support the use of multidisciplinary culturally sensitive approaches to HIV care.
- Apply ethical and trauma-informed principles in navigating three complex issues such as disclosure, minor consent, and family dynamics in HIV care in this patient base.
- Utilize practical skills to address at least three common barriers to optimal healthcare among HIV-positive African American youth, including disease stigma, confidentiality concerns, and issues that hinder treatment adherence.
