Advancements in medicine and science have allowed rehabilitation clinicians to focus not only on compensatory strategies with their patients, but also to have a direct impact on their neurologic recovery post-stroke. But while this knowledge is rapidly growing, clinicians often find themselves unsure or unaware of the science and appropriate clinical application. This course will examine the benefits of high intensity aerobic training and its effects on neuroplasticity and use this information to discuss application in clinical care for both upper and lower extremity rehabilitation. Physical and Occupational therapists are at the forefront of advancements in neuroplasticity and recovery post-stroke and should have the knowledge and tools to bring these advancements to life in clinical practice.
