Imaging of the Orbits (1 hour) Peter Kalina, MD, MBA, FACR Division of Neuroradiology Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN 55905 Summary This course will be a comprehensive overview on diagnostic imaging of the orbits. It will be presented in a practical format to help clinicians establish appropriate ordering practices as well as to help in the work-up of their patients. In addition to discussing the various imaging modalities, ten different categories of disease will be covered with multiple examples from each. Both adult and pediatric cases will be presented. Learning Objectives 1) Understand technologies available to diagnose orbital disease utilizing imaging. 2) Understand when to order CT, MRI, radiographs, angiography. 3) Discuss the pros and cons of various imaging techniques. 4) Discuss more commonly encountered pathologies. 5) Discuss a few less common entities for completeness. Course Outline 1) Understanding the technologies available to image the orbits a. CT b. MRI c. PET/CT d. Angiography 2) Anatomic Variants and other leave me alone lesions 3) Infectious etiologies (both acute and chronic) 4) Inflammatory processes (common and less common) 5) Trauma 6) Neoplasms (benign and malignant). 7) Vascular Lesions (arterial and venous etiologies) 8) Congenital Lesions 9) Iatrogenic 10) Sequela of Systemic Disease 11) Miscellaneous (cosmetic fillers, etc).
