Lecture 1: PROGRAM TITLE: Top Mistakes Made in the First Five Minutes of a Toxicology Case and How to Fix Them! By Dr Laura Stern Abstract: The first few minutes at the vet hospital can be critical for toxicology cases. Decontamination and providing stabilizing care should be prompt, but it can be difficult to assess if and when they are needed. We'll explore some of the most common errors that can potentially lead to complications, adversely affect patient outcomes, or simply may be unnecessary. We will discuss the importance of when and how to obtain a thorough toxicologic history and the importance of promptly evaluating toxicology patients, treating serious or life-threatening clinical signs (sometimes even before the toxin is known), and quickly decontaminating these patients when appropriate. PROGRAM TITLE: How to be a Tox Math Wizard by Dr Jennifer Kendall Abstract: In this lecture, we will cover common calculations encountered when managing toxin exposures. Join me as we navigate the mystical world of numbers and become an expert in handling dosage calculations, quick conversions, CRIs, and more! LECTURE 3: PROGRAM TITLE: New Meds in Vet Med? Solensia, Librela, Bexacat, etc by Dr Cristine Hayes Abstract: Veterinary medicine is evolving rapidly, and new medications are transforming the way we manage chronic conditions in our patients. Solensia and Librela, the first monoclonal antibody therapies for osteoarthritis pain in cats and dogs, offer a novel, targeted approach to pain relief with fewer systemic side effects. Bexacat, the first SGLT2 inhibitor for feline diabetes, provides an insulin-free option for newly diagnosed diabetic cats. But how do these new treatments compare to existing therapies? What are their indications, contraindications, and potential risks?
