Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) is the most common chronic liver condition in the United States. While most individuals with MASLD have a fatty liver without inflammation, about 20% develop non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a more severe form that causes liver inflammation and can lead to significant liver damage. The exact causes of MASLD and why some individuals progress to Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), remain unclear. Despite the availability of clinical guidance and published guidelines, the diagnosis and management of these conditions can still be elusive for healthcare providers.
