Long-term-care staff members frequently encounter residents and their family members who have not yet made advance care planning decisions. State surveys frequently document deficiencies about advance directives in many long-term-care facilities. Information related to the legal requirements surrounding advance directives may help to facilitate discussions about advanced directives with residents and their families or representatives.
