Course overview

This course explores rodenticide toxicity in small animal veterinary medicine. Rodenticide exposure is a Top 3 call annually for the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center and a very common presentation to the veterinary hospital. It discusses the three major types of rodenticide that are available on the market including decontamination, toxic doses with LD50's, treatment, and nursing care. It includes a look at other "less toxic" rodenticides as well. The course reviews how to tell these rodenticides apart to make sure the correct one is being treated for and what to do when one cannot identify it. Lastly, it discusses relay exposure which is the occurrence of a pet eating wildlife or a carcass that may have eaten rodenticide.
