Course overview

Phantom limb pain is a painful sensation that occurs in a part of the body that has been amputated. It is very common after amputation but despite its prevalence we dont fully understand its underlying mechanisms. This lack of understanding is hampering our ability to effectively manage phantom limb pain. While there are many treatments for phantom limb pain there is no strong evidence for any one treatment approach. So what can we do? This course unpacks many of the commonly used rehabilitation interventions for phantom limb pain as well as briefly introducing pharmacological and surgical approaches. Physical therapist Inger Brueckner provides clinical insights into how these treatments can be used and patients discuss their experiences of phantom limb pain and treatments that they have found effective. This course follows on from Inger's Phantom Limb Pain Overview course. This course aims to explore evidence-based approaches to phantom limb pain rehabilitation integrating current research evidence with established clinical practices.
