Course overview

The goal of this self-study on-demand course is to encompass the changes upon us in patient care, caring, assessment, treatment planning and possible treatment modalities available. Our older population will be maintaining their teeth longer and will have more discretionary income to spend on staying healthy. Discussion will cover mature patient needs, changes accompanying aging, homecare, and the effects of prescription drugs on oral health.

At the completion of this course the participants should be able to:


  1. Learn about statistical information on the aging population.
  2. Learn effective communication methods for use with Geriatric patients and the importance of a Good Dental Examination.
  3. Learn about Restoration vs. Rehabilitation in Geriatric patient care.
  4. Obtain information about the limits to treatment for the older and compromised adult.
  5. Learn about alternative methods and modes of treatment for providing Geriatric patient care


The educational teaching methodology used in this course is a self-study lecture presented via pre-recorded webinar in concert with an accompanying PowerPoint presentation. Both the pre-recorded webinar and the PowerPoint presentation incorporate a variety of audio and visual cues to enhance audience members’ understanding and retention of key concepts.
