Learn moreCourse overview
Kidney function in health and disease is impacted by diverse risk factors, injury, and outcomes. In this archived webinar we will explore the concept of acute kidney injury (AKI) and compare with the older nomenclature of acute kidney failure. We will review traditional biomarkers of renal disease and introduce newer markers of renal injury including urinary cystatin B. Identification of acute kidney injury and indication of an active process provide the veterinary professional an opportunity to intervene earlier in the course of disease, and in some cases before changes in functional markers occur, potentially improving patient outcomes. We will briefly review peer-reviewed evidence in support of clinical applications of AKI biomarkers and demonstrate utility using clinical cases.
