Food insecurity is a critical public health and clinical issue, linked to a range of short- and long-term consequences affecting neurological, behavioral, social, and physical health. During the first 1,000 days of life, spanning from conception to age two, food insecurity can have profound impacts on prenatal and early childhood development, leading to adverse outcomes. This 2-hour, view-on-demand, recorded webinar dives deep into how food insecurity shapes early development. It equips professionals with knowledge and intervention strategies to make a positive impact. Pediatric OTs, SLPs, parents, and other professionals learn practical strategies for identifying, interviewing, and screening for food insecurity. Evidence-based solutions and interventions are explored. Throughout the training, you'll gain insights from cutting-edge research and discover why being food-insecurity informed is essential for improving outcomes in your caseload. By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and strategies to address food insecurity as a key factor in promoting healthier futures for children and families. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) identify the definition of food insecurity; (2) state the impact food insecurity has on prenatal and childhood development and how it can contribute to poor health outcomes across the lifespan; (3) list the potential neurobiopsychosocial consequences associated with food insecurity;,(4) identify effective interviewing and screening practices professionals can implement with families and children impacted by food insecurity; and (5) list practical tips, interventions, and solutions that professionals can implement with families and children impacted by food insecurity.
