MANAGING FIBROMYALGIA WITH YOGA
Tracking # 20-375954
Course overview
Fibromyalgia is a poorly understood condition that results in chronic pain, requiring sufferers to sacrifice their usual daily occupations to seek pain relief. There are no consistently effective medical interventions to manage the pain of fibromyalgia, and although occupational therapists have numerous modalities and techniques to address the physical sources of pain, they may feel frustrated and discouraged that patients with fibromyalgia have recurring complaints. Many patients turn to complementary and alternative medicine for help. Yoga is an excellent treatment for fibromyalgia because it does not compartmentalize the symptoms, and is gentle, non-judgmental and provides a wellness orientation lacking in many traditional medical treatments. Helping clients to incorporate yoga practices into their daily routines may help them to take a more active role in reducing and managing stress and pain associated with this chronic condition.
