About the Course This course is designed to meet the one-hour requirement for behavioral health professionals in crisis management and disaster response. It addresses crisis/disaster planning, assessment, communication skills, interventions, resources, and strategies for crisis prevention. Evidence based models to de-escalate a crisis situation and assist clients to cope with stress and trauma are presented. Crisis situations addressed in this course include suicidal and homicidal ideation, abuse/neglect, and domestic/intimate partner violence. Emphasis is placed on current research and evidence-based models of crisis management. Learning Outcomes Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to: Identify and define risk and protective factors that correlate with abuse/neglect, intimate partner violence, and suicidal and/or homicidal ideation. Select and apply assessment strategies to develop safety plans and interventions to prevent violence toward self and others. Apply crisis management components from the 2024 Strategy for Suicide Prevention and National Guidelines for Behavioral Health Crisis Care: A Best Practice Toolkit for recovery-oriented care.
