Course overview

Discussion about pediatric toxicology, with topics including single-dose killers, manifestations of common toxic pediatric exposures, management plans for common toxic pediatric exposures, and indications for high-dose naloxone, high-dose insulin, and intralipid therapy in select toxic emergencies. There is also a discussion about how implicit bias may impact healthcare. Survey of target hospitals reported needs for emergency room topics, increases in use of illicit drugs and alcohol use disorders, and pediatric care in the ER as well as pediatric trauma. This activity will help meet all of those above needs by discussing patient presentations, symptoms, pathophysiology, and treatment of patients exposed to multiple toxins. The program covers illicit drugs as well as inadvertent/inappropriate ingestion of prescription medications and toxins such as pesticides and chemicals found in the home.
