This clinical skills test assesses the candidates' ability to perform specific dental procedures on typodont models, including: Tooth preparation for crowns and bridges Restorative procedures (Class II & III composite/amalgam) Prosthetic design and wax-ups Endodontic access cavity preparation Purpose of the Bench Test: Assess manual dexterity and precision Evaluate clinical efficiency and technique Test knowledge of fundamental biomechanical principles Measure the ability to follow specific guidelines and protocols The results of the Bench Test help postgraduate programs and licensing authorities determine whether a candidate meets the required clinical competency and technical proficiency to succeed in a U.S. dental program. Course Content Each module includes hands-on practice on typodont models with step-by-step guidance, followed by instructor evaluation and feedback. Fundamentals of Crown Preparations. Biomechanical principles of crown preparation (Retention, Resistance, Taper, Clearance) Instrument selection and ergonomic handling techniques Finish line design (Chamfer, Shoulder, Modified Shoulder) Measuring reduction and margin accuracy Hands-on practice: Controlled use of high-speed and slow-speed handpieces Proper bur selection and angulation techniques Creating smooth, continuous margins Full Gold, Metal-Ceramic (PFM), all ceramic crowns preparation: Indications and advantages of full metal crowns. Technical requirements for gold restorations. Chamfer margin design for optimal adaptation. Taper and axial wall management for retention. Hands-on practice: Preparation of a molar for a full gold crown, premolar ,PFM, all Ceramic anterior, focusing on occlusal and axial reduction Self-evaluation using standard grading criteria Self-assessment checklist: Gold Crorwn:Smooth chamfer margin Proper occlusal clearance Correct taper and axial wall smoothness Ensuring proper reduction for metal substructure and ceramic layer Chamfer and shoulder margin comparison Avoiding excessive axial reduction while preserving ferrule effect Hands-on practice: PFM ;Shoulder margin on buccal side Chamfer margin on lingual side Proper occlusal clearance Correct axial reduction Ceramic: Shoulder margin Adequate incisal clearance Correct lingual reduction Proper transition from cingulum to shoulder. Final Evaluation, Ergonomics, and Error Correction Modality: Practical, hands-on training in a simulated Bench Test setting Equipment Provided: Typodont models, burs, handpieces, putty matrix, dental loupes Final Assessment: Candidates must complete three crown preparations (gold, PFM, and all-ceramic) that will be graded based on standard criteria.
