Upon completing this course participants should be able to: 1. Review March 2011 Institute of Medicine Report on the health of gay, bisexual and transgender people. 2. Recognize aspects of the culture of sexual orientation. 3. Define commonly used terms such as sex, gender identity, and heterosexism. 4. Describe barriers faced by lesbians and women who partner with women (WPW) when accessing the healthcare system. 5. Identify three lesbian health issues. 6. State the potential impact of a breach in confidentiality and privacy for a lesbian or WPW. 7. List three ways to make a practice more culturally competent.
