Course overview
Pharmacy-based Test and Treat empowers pharmacists to perform diagnostic tests in an in-person clinical setting. This pharmacist-led service increases patients' access to healthcare by allowing pharmacists to perform appropriate physical assessments and diagnostic tests, and to treat patients based on a combination of physical and diagnostic test results. This on-site, pharmacist-led clinical service uses Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived (CLIA-waived) laboratory tests and increases patients' access to clinical care and treatment. It also has the potential to reduce the number of patient sick days by increasing access to healthcare services. We have developed a comprehensive continuing education program that addresses the educational needs of pharmacists who have a Test and Treat Certification and need to complete a Test and Treat Recertification Program. This continuing education program will focus on topics related to point-of-care testing and treatment of minor, non-chronic disease states, including testing, treating, and managing Conjunctivitis, HIV testing, and treating COVID-19.
