Course overview
Effective communication is fundamental in providing quality care, especially when working with clients who have cognitive impairments such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or traumatic brain injuries. These conditions present unique challenges that require specialized skills and strategies for meaningful interactions. This one hour training module equips Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) in Florida with the knowledge and tools necessary to communicate effectively with cognitively impaired clients. The course covers key topics including the basics of cognitive impairment, active listening techniques, the role of non-verbal communication, and strategies to manage challenging situations. Participants will also learn how to create supportive environments and utilize practical resources like communication aids to enhance their caregiving approach.
