The Rez Clinic Manifesto: Delivering High Volume Spay/Neuter Veterinary Care on Native American Reservations

Course overview

This course will teach students how to create and deliver high volume spay/neuter veterinary care on Native American reservations. In this course we examine key decision in service delivery, with an emphasis on ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance protocols and real world experience. We rely on our experience with our First Nations Veterinary mobile unit where we deliver six clinics a year on the multiple reservations. Specific topics will include: defining clinic values, mechanisms for controlling bite, flight and mortality risks, implementation of fear free techniques, pain and stress mitigation through selection of drug protocols, client communication, cultural sensitivity, clinic inventory, start up and consumable cost estimates, soliciting volunteers, marketing clinics, and aftercare considerations.
