Course overview
This program discusses inpatient pain management and nonpharmacologic and over-the-counter (OTC) pain therapy. Part 1 explores nonpharmacologic and OTC pain therapy, with topics including pain assessment methods; non-pharmaceutical pain management techniques; and the benefits of non-opioid and non-medication pain management. Part 2 covers inpatient pain management, with topics including the mechanisms of action and pharmacokinetic properties of various medications utilized for inpatient pain management; common adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with analgesics and prevention or treatment methods; an evaluation of recent literature surrounding inpatient pain management; developing an appropriate inpatient pain regimen given a patient case; medications used for the management of pain in the inpatient setting; and medications commonly used to prevent or treat analgesic-related ADRs.
