Course Overview: This course is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to provide affirming and inclusive therapy to clients of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations. Learners will explore the impact of societal, cultural, and systemic factors on the mental health of LGBTQ+ individuals and learn strategies for creating a supportive therapeutic environment. Course Objectives: At the end of the course, you will learn to: provide affirming therapy by understanding the fundamental concepts of gender identity and sexual orientation; identify the societal, cultural, and systemic factors that impact the mental health of LGBTQ+ individuals; create an inclusive and supportive therapeutic environment for clients of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations; identify the unique mental health challenges faced by LGBTQ+ clients due to discrimination and stigma; apply culturally competent therapeutic approaches tailored to the needs of LGBTQ+ individuals; effectively engage with and support LGBTQ+ clients in therapy, and uphold ongoing self-reflection and professional development in providing inclusive care to LGBTQ+ individuals.
