Course Overview: Through five modules, mental health professionals will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to identify the types and effects of prescription opioids, recognize signs of abuse, understand the nature of addiction, and grasp the legal and ethical considerations surrounding these medications. By the course's end, mental health professionals will be well-prepared to contribute to efforts addressing the opioid crisis and ensuring the safe use of these powerful pain-relief drugs in healthcare settings. Course Objectives: In this course, you will: identify common prescription opioid drugs and their uses; recognize the risks and side effects associated with prescription opioid use; describe the physical and behavioral signs of opioid abuse and misuse; understand the nature of opioid addiction and its impact on individuals, and explain the methods and consequences of prescription opioid diversion.
