Course overview

Course Overview: Participants will explore the importance of cultural competence in the counseling profession and develop an understanding of how cultural factors impact clients' experiences, worldviews, and help-seeking behaviors. Through self-reflection, case studies, and practical exercises, counselors will enhance their ability to navigate cultural differences, address biases, and create a welcoming and supportive environment for all clients. Course Objectives: In this course, you will learn to: understand the significance of cultural responsiveness and its role in the counseling process; explore the impact of cultural factors on clients' beliefs, values, and help-seeking behaviors; develop self-awareness and cultural humility to recognize personal biases and assumptions; learn strategies for building rapport and fostering trust in cross-cultural counseling relationships; develop techniques to overcome cultural barriers and challenges in counseling; implement culturally responsive assessment and treatment planning approaches; enhance communication and active listening skills to effectively engage with clients from diverse backgrounds, and promote cultural humility and respect for clients' unique experiences and identities.
